The Kansas State University (KSU) Wildcats only had one player from their school taken in the 2010 NFL Draft that was held in April of 2010. The sole K-State Wildcat selected by a National Football League (NFL) franchise in the 2010 draft held at Radio City Music Hall in New York City was cornerback Joshua Moore.
Joshua Moore was taken in the fifth round by the Chicago Bears with the 141st overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. Moore is a 5’11” 184 pound cornerback who is being brought on to help the aging Chicago secondary.
Moore was born on August 20, 1988 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and wore number four for the Wildcats before being picked up by the Chicago Bears. There is currently a player wearing number four on the Chicago roster and that is punter Brad Maynard. Maynard has been in the NFL since being a third round draft pick (very high for a punter) in 1997. It is unclear whether Maynard will give number four to Joshua Moore or if the rookie will have to defer the jersey number to the veteran player.
Before Moore led his college team at KSU in tackles he was a standout athlete as a prep star in the Miami area of Florida. In high school the talented lock down corner anchored the defense at his high school with such skill that he earned All-Broward County recognition for Class 6A in Florida, a noteworthy achievement.
Prior to choosing K-State as a high school senior Joshua considered a more local athletic scholarship from Florida State University in Tallahassee. Moore also received recruiting interest from nearby powerhouses the University of Florida and the University of Miami.
As a freshman at Kansas State in 2006 Moore played in all 13 games and as a result of improved performance started each of the last five games of the season. Joshua earned the accolade of All-Big 12 freshman team for his efforts. As a sophomore the rising star was forced to red shirt due to injury issues. Moore overcame the 2007 setback and finished his college football career strong enough to earn himself attention in the 2010 NFL Draft.
Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith was happy to pick up Joshua Moore when he was still available in the fifth round. At the 141st pick in the draft the Chicago Bears felt that a player whose abilities fit the needs of their team as well as Joshua Moore did provided a true value opportunity in terms of acquiring an asset at an easily justifiable cost.…
