Starting Your Acting Career With Disney

What does Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Hayden Panettiere and Vanessa Hudgens have in common? The answer, their acting careers or their singing careers started out with a little help from Disney.

Unlike other casting audits, what makes Disney so different is that there is room for just about anyone who wants to become famous. There is a separate audition for singers, dancers, actors, stunt artists, musicians, bands and Disney character look alikes.

Whatever you choose to pursue, it is best to get an agent because you are more likely to be aware with this person helping out. But this does not mean you will not have a shot if you go in alone without an agent by your side because it has happened.

For an actor, what you will need during an audit to prepare is a one minute comedic monologue. You better practice your timing and do not forget to remember the words. There must be emotion behind what you are saying and while you are playing the part because you are not reciting in class but trying to capture the moment. You should also be ready to go up there and use additional material that will be prepared by the sentences.

Aside from your skit, you should have with you a few great headshots and of course your resume with your contact information. This will make it easy for the casting director to get back to you after everyone was screened during the audition.

The moment you walk in, you should be relaxed and ready to execute your number because the production people are keeping on a tight schedule when there are others waiting their turn.

Similar to American idol, all auditions are closed which means family members and friends are not allowed to watch. They can wait in the holding area so they can meet their child once their number is over.

If you make it, you now have to get an entertainment work permit because this is required by law. This should be signed by your parents and at times your school principal since education is still a priority given your age. This has to be shown every time you report for work and renewed after 6 months.

In time, your acting career will flourish from a television show to maybe even a movie. Take for example High School musical which people did not expect to be so popular and within months, the High School Musical 3 will be shown in the theaters.

Your acting career does not end the moment you leave Disney because you will always take this with you wherever you go. Take for instance Hayden Panettiere who is now part of the hit show Heroes. She started with Disney in 1998 with a small role in the movie "The Object Of My Affection" and lent her voice talent in "This Bug's Life."

So it starting your acting career good with Disney? The answer is definitely yes. You just have to make it …

Reinventing Educational Leadership

As the 21st century continues to unfold, the task of finding competent leaders to occupy positions of leadership in the educational arena continues to be a challenge not because of a lack of academically qualified leaders, but because of a lack of adaptive -competently qualified candidates. As such, many schools are under the leadership of leaders who lack the qualifications necessary to operate educational institutions in an era marked by rapid and constant change. If the educational scenery is to realize any meaningful change educational leadership should be reinvented. This paper identifies some of the challenges currently faced by the Education system. It looks at how these challenges may be addressed by reinventing educational leadership. The paper culminates with brief recommendations of how institutions of higher learning as well as stakeholders in the educational sector may reinvent the manner in which they prepare educational leaders -the end result not only academically-qualified, but also adaptive-competently qualified leaders who are capable to perform in environments characterized by constant and rapid changes.

The educational environment in contemporary society is one in which change represents one of the very few constants. Cultural, social, political, technological and economic changes have asserted in a more diverse school populace since the genesis of education. With the advent of these changes, the educational sector is now faced with increased challenges. Challenges such as: low family literacy, increased poverty margins, a rise in dysfunctional families, and increased access to counter-productive information via internet. These challenges have seemingly created an uneven play ground where students from all walks of life enter the education system being different, but by the time they exit, the barriers of differences should fade significantly, at least academically. Unfortunately, this does not always happen. An article by The National Association of Secondary School Principals "How do you reinvent a principal" highlights a number of effects these challenges have birthed: higher drop out rates, lower academic achievement and teacher attrition. The impact of the effects of these challenges on society is detrimental, as more students exit the educational system without the necessary qualifications to become positively contributing citizens to society.

As these changes and their impact are characterized in the educational environment, stakeholders are forced to raise their expectations from those in leadership positions within schools. Copeland in his article "The myth of a Super Principal" substantiates this point when he states that the expectations of leaders have increased significantly since the 1980's (2001). The mandate of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) in 2001 solidified the prior statements as under the act leaders working in schools which were subsequently reclassified as not meeting annual annual progress (AYP) goals were relinquished of their positions. Incidentally, most of the leaders who were "relocated" were academically qualified for leadership positions, but lacking adaptive-competency qualification. Academically qualified leaders have successfully completed their years of training, by mastering the necessary dogma that was required. Adaptive-competent leaders are able to execute the theoretical skills practically and are able to assess new …

Sex, Science and Survival

The idea that reality evolves through an infinite dance of fundamental atomic geometric shapes with an ethical purpose, became the basis of science in 3rd Century BC Greece. Plato's Academy called it the Science for ethical ends. The Epicurean University called it the Science of universal love. The movement of the moon, echoing the atomic dance of life was seen to influence the female cycle. The ethical purpose, in this case, was held to explain a mothers love and compassion for children, giving sex a potential infinite ethical value.

Greek philosophers argued that religious beliefs were not part of the atomic purpose and others maintained that traditional cultural virtues contributed to the evolution of humanity. A crucible debate at that time, was that healthy human development required a scientific understanding of infinity. This understanding was associated with a sexually orientated joy of life associated with the eternal acoustic dance creating a desire to love and protect children.

Greek science was invented to save civilization from the extrusion process, recorded within the fossil record. In particular, the term 'savior' applied to teachers of the Epicurean school. The Roman Government considered this idea as a threat to the stability of their Empire. However, it succumbed to Christian ideology during the 5th Century AD. By that time science was an instrument controlled by religious dogma for the purpose of military contract rather that reasoning about the infinite ethical purpose of the geometric atomic dance of life.

The mathematical understanding of the dance of life under religious control during the Dark Ages was about ensuring that a particular creed developed science to protect itself from military contract. Sexual selection centred upon the physical attributes of the warrior class, echoing the primitive survival mindset of previous life on earth, most of which had become extinct. Infinite mathematical conjecture became completely banished within all scientific reasoning as a treasonable heresy. Giordano Bruno in 1600 was burnt alive by the Christian church in Rome for teaching about it at Oxford University.

The resulting supreme law of science became one of carcinogenic growth and development towards certain extinction and therefore can not be considered as ethical. Einstein's genius, who initially agreed with that unethical proposition, provided the solution to this problem. His "we can not solve problems by using the same kind of thinking that we used when we created them" that that science needed to alter its governing logic.

If humanity is to prosper it must confront modern science's obsession with the certain extinction of humanity. That will involve a re-understanding of our sexual mindset. The infinite geometric logic involved in the dance of life generates a powder keg of emotional thoughts and feelings beyond present scientific comprehension. With all the best intentions, religious concepts of infinity are of little pragmatic help. This is demonstrated by the current exposure of organized child molestation within the Christian Church and the deteriorating use of sex associated with acts of religious Islamic terrorism. The complexity and dynamics of sexual reality …

Career Choice Is Not What You Think

Your career choice is extremely important, however, your actions affect the employer. Maybe you have made a bad choice of career and want to change. Fine! Just do not take it out on fellow employees by laying out sick or taking excessive time off. Be responsible whatever the job today. Everyone in your future will want to know about your past performance, so be very careful how you take action or one day it will hit you in the backside without mercy.

How important is your job to the team?

Most of us never think about who we'd miss …. UNTIL there is a sudden change in things NOT getting done in the office or the plant. Well, when you stop to think about it ….. there are more folks than we realize who we depend on everyday of the week. I know, the first one we think about is the PAYROLL clerk who writes our weekly paycheck. Then there are others that quickly come to mind …. the coffee maker; the mail clerk; the UPS guy / gal or FEDx person; the cleaning crew and more. A BIG WOW !!

Missing persons never cross our mind before it affects our routine. Suddenly someone hollers out with who's going to make the coffee this morning? Where's the payroll clerk? One of the biggest challenges comes when no one emptied the trash cans over night.

Why is it important for EVERYONE to do their job efficiently? It's like your sparkplugs misfiring when you crank up the car, right? Just ONE dead plug and we all know something is wrong immediately. None of us like the inconvenience and challenge of poor performance with our cars or a team-mate.

Ask the question of yourself. Who would be affected in their daily routine if you failed to be on the job when expected? Are you important to the smooth running of your office; department; plant or where you accept a paycheck today? Probably very important or your "pink" slip is coming soon.

How about the CEO? Yes, he or she is very important. However, unless you are on the executive floor of the firm it's illegally that his / her performance will affect your daily routine. Their job is to THINK and search for ways to build and grow the business. Maybe even BUY competitors for market share and value to your stocksholders and most probably you and fellow employees too.

Before you complain …. it's a good idea to realize every employee has value to your success just as you have value and worth to their success as fellow team-players.

ACTIONTIP: Before you take a sick day or start your vacation ….. think about how it will affect the smooth running of your team. Did you make arrangements so your job will be covered? Is your supervisor informed and ready for your absence? Be responsible and take action as a leader. One day you may be the Supervisor or even the CEO or …

Workplace Violence – Detect the Warning Signs & Triggering Events

Our other articles on workplace violence describe its nature and scope, our POSTAL formula and behavioral profile, and defusing techniques. Here we describe the warning signs and triggering events … and what to do when you detect them.

The POSTAL Formula for Workplace Violence Prevention:

Profile + Observable Warning Signs + Shotgun + Triggering Event(s) = Always Lethal

The Profile is most useful during the hiring process, to screen out potential perpetrators. For your existing workforce — and when dealing with outsiders — we turn to the…

Observable Warning Signs

These warning signs, which can be newly acquired negative traits, parallel and overlap the profile, but now we focus on current behavior. So, instead of a previous history of violence, our first warning sign is observed…

  1. Violent and Threatening Behavior
  2. For Patrick Sherrill (the first postal worker to “go postal” in 1986), it was tying up neighborhood dogs with bailing wire and a strong fascination for weapons.
    In general, this also includes:

  • Destruction of property or threats of sabotage
  • Disregard for the safety of others or violation of safety procedures
  • Threats, intimidation, bullying, e.g., Seung-Hui Cho of Virginia Tech and Harris and Klebold of Columbine (as both perpetrators and victims)
  • Violence against a family member, e.g., Mark Barton murdered his wife and children just before his Atlanta day-trading massacre
  • Stalking or harassing others. Cho was involved in at least three stalking incidents, the first occurring 18 months prior to his rampage. Also, he placed harassing phone calls to his roommate and took cell phone pictures of female students’ legs under their desks.

  • Strange Behavior
  • Patrick Sherrill’s neighbors noted his strange behavior in the neighborhood — mowing his lawn at midnight and peering into neighbor’s windows while wearing combat fatigues. His coworkers said he preferred his own company and described him as enigmatic. Cho was known as the question mark kid. He had an imaginary girlfriend who lived in outer space.

In general, strange behavior can include:

    • Becoming reclusive, e.g., a sudden withdrawal from friends or acquaintances
    • Poor personal hygiene or a deteriorating and unkempt appearance
    • Inappropriate dress, e.g., Cho never took off his sunglasses, even indoors
    • Bizarre or paranoid behavior
    • Erratic behavior or an extreme change in behavior

  • Emotional Problems
  • For example, Patrick Sherrill was often angry and frequently depressed. A district court found Cho to be: “an imminent danger to himself as a result of mental illness.” Professors described him as insecure and depressed, as were the boys of Columbine. This also can include:

    • Drug or alcohol abuse
    • Appearing to be under unusual stress; signs of depression or despondence
    • Inappropriate emotional display, e.g., screaming, explosive outbursts, rage, crying

  • Performance Problems
  • Sherrill’s coworkers perceived him as a problem employee and a consistent non-performer. Virginia Tech declined to divulge details about Cho’s academic record, but Cho’s mother was increasingly concerned about his inattention to class work and his time spent out of the classroom. Performance problems also can include:

    • Inability to concentrate … decreased energy

    Importance of Website in Schools

Internet has become one of the largest platforms of communication. It is the most effective technology available today. Building a website for school can prove to be extremely beneficial if it is done in the right way. It maybe time consuming and include a lot of effort to be put in for developing a website for the school, but it is very advantageous for the school community. The school website gives the school’s information and also clear idea about what they are good at. School websites will provide the up to dates, as well as help them to link between schools, their communities and also to the entire world.

Opportunities provided by a school website:

    • Parents become more aware about the schools functioning, and also feel involved. Through the websites parents can be easily informed about the upcoming events like activities, exams and also tips that could help children. Thus websites play a vital role in removing the barrier between parents and the school.
    • With the help of websites teacher’s can share their views and ideas with the rest of the faculty as well as the parents.
    • Te website makes it easier for the parents to give the school and the teachers their valuable feedback.
    • Parents get the opportunity to become well versed with the education system of their child.
    • The website provides a platform for the school to build contacts and link with business, families as well as other schools. Especially for families who relocate very often, these websites become great sources for them.

Few elements necessary for a school website:

    • Background of the school and other information like history and staff.
    • Basic contact details should always be mentioned in the website like, address, phone number, etc.
    • The website should contain all the day to day information or notice like upcoming inter and intra school events, holidays parent teacher’s meeting, etc.
    • School websites should also avail blogs and forums to give an opportunity to have an interaction.
    • The necessary teaching aids, teaching materials, journals, lesson plan, and other education resources should be provided.
    • Photographs and write-ups about school, classroom, school trips, etc. should be put up. Also suggestions to be given to parents, assisting them to help their children at home.

Creating websites of your own is the same as being a publisher, but a website is always convenient for both students and educators. Here you make your own website without being criticized and it also saves time. Students should be encouraged to make the website for the school as they have more knowledge about technology than adults. Thus it becomes a learning experience for them, making them more versatile in what they do and create.

Many a times people tend to consider the school website to be a substitute for all the face-to-face interactions. It is a very wrong notion that they hold. The website should be perceived as an extra resource benefit provided to the world by the schools.…
