What You Should Know When Pursuing A University Degree

Are you through with your high school education and looking to pursue a university degree? Here are a few things you should know:

Benefits of having a university degree

There are plenty of benefits that come with having a university degree. Some of these advantages include:

More money: This is a no-brainer. According to the state higher education executive officer’s association, those with bachelor degrees earn almost twice than those with high school diplomas. The higher the level of education, the more money you make. While the amount you make varies depending on the gender, the course of study and location, generally when you have a college degree you earn more.

As you know, when you earn more you afford more thus you are much comfortable than someone without a degree.

Job security: When you have a college degree you are more valuable to the employer than someone who isn’t educated. This is because you have valuable skills that the employer can use in his/her business. These skills make you more attractive thus you are less likely to be fired.

Job satisfaction: Most of the college graduates work in areas they studied in school. This gives them an opportunity to practice what they have been studying. This, in addition to the better working conditions and higher income, they are more likely to be happy and satisfied in life. The satisfaction is not only reflected in the workplace where they are more productive, but it’s also found in their lives and families where they have happy families and have all-around lives.

Life skills: College education not only trains you to be an employee. It also impacts you with valuable skills that help you in life out of college and out of the workplace. College trains you to analyze issues critically, understand complex subjects, and communicate ideas with ease. You can apply these skills in all spheres of your life thus you become a great person.

Tips to consider when pursuing a university degree

Studies show that over 75% of students leaving high school don’t know the route they want their lives to take. Due to this, they don’t know the right courses they should choose. If you are one of these people, there are tips you can use to make the right choice.

The first tip is to listen to your heart. What do you love doing? Do you love computers? Pursue a computer related course. Do you love working with people? Pursue a community development course and so on. If a secure future is of more value to you, there are plenty of resources you can use to know the best paying and more marketable courses that you can go for. For example, for decades, medicine and engineering courses have been in huge demand and are well paying. Nursing and teaching courses are also in high demand, but they aren’t well-paying.

Experiencing College Weight Gain? These 4 Bad Habits Are Increasing Your Waistline!

A lot of students experience College weight gain when they move away from home to go to school. Have you put on a few pounds since you left home? Do you know what to do about it? I am a recent College grad, and during my time at school I identified several bad habits that students fall into that inflates their waistline. Are you making any of these mistakes? If you are, you need to identify and reverse your behavior so that you can get the body that you want! Here are 4 bad habits that could be causing you to experience College weight gain:

1. Making the wrong choices in the cafeteria. In my cafeteria, there was a soft-serve ice cream machine available, as well as a desert tray. I saw some people who would eat two deserts per day, one with lunch and one with dinner. Packaged deserts got smuggled up to dorm rooms in bulk for later. It's no wonder people are experiencing College weight gain with habits like these; and this is just the deserts. The waffle bars, bagel bars, etc. are also killers. Pick a diet plan and stick to it when you're in the caf. There are plenty of healthy fruits, veggies, proteins, complex carbs, etc. to choose from. Look over the menu the night before so you can plan what to eat the next day and then stick to it when you are there.

2. Eating out late at night. Up late? I always was is school, and the caf is not open. So what are you eating? Pizza? Subs? Burgers? You can really ruin a decent diet with this one meal, so pay attention to what you are ordering. Once again, try to stick to something that will be on your diet plan.

3. Relying on unhealthy snacks. This is a similar story to number two, because it's based on your lifestyle. You're moving around to several buildings throughout your day, and all of them have vending machines or snack counters with unhealthy snacks. During a long day away from home, you're bound to get hungry and reach for one of these snacks to satisfy you. It's a lot better idea to pack your own snacks that conform to your diet plan.

4. What are you drinking? No, I'm not talking about your weekend activities. I'm referring to the fact that sugary sodas are available everywhere on campus, such as: vending machines in buildings andorms, unlimited supply from the caf, and fountain pops from snack counters or party stores. If you switch to diet, or drink water instead, you'll cut out a lot of unwanted calories.

The good news is that you can fight college weight gain, but you have to identify your bad habits that are the causes. Once you do, you can make a plan to get the body you deserve! …

The event took place in the Grand Hall at Union Station, 210 S. Canal St., Chicago, Illinois. Nelson Sears, Communications Manager at Harrington, orchestrated the event. Never has the Grand Hall looked as good as it has for this special event. The room was resplendent, colored lights were mounted at the base of the Greco / Roman fluted columns that surround the room. The hall was finely appointed with wall decorations, balloons, and an assortment of flowers. A very fine dancing band that played in a manner that was festive yet not overly engaging.

Starting out as a student at the Frances Harrington Institution of Interior Decoration, Robert C. Marks took control of the school in 1959. A man of vision, Mr. Marks expanded the programs and course offerings. Seeing a need for school research, Mr. Marks started what came to be the largest and most replete Interior Design library in the country. Further, he saw to having the school accredited by the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and changed the name to The Harrington Institute of Interior Design.

As time passed Marks developed educational seminars in conjuction with on-site tours to architectural destinations for research. They went to cities all over the world visiting famous places that have changed Interior Design. These seminar events along with their enhanced curriculum helped established Harrington Institute as the premier school for Interior Design in Chicago and as one of the leading Interior Design schools in the Country.

Mr. Marks saw a need for educational credentials for interior designers so he expanded the school to a college offering a Bachelor Degree. The Institute was renamed the Harrington College of Design as it remains today.

For years Harrington was located in the Fine Arts Building at 410 S. Michigan Avenue in downtown Chicago. This excellent location enabled Harrington students to take advantage of all the educational and cultural venues that Chicago has to offer.

Along with Mr. Marks, six other individuals were given awards.

For the Excellence in Design Award the following individuals were honored: Lucien Lagrange, Eva Maddox, Stanley Tigerman, and Victor Skrebneski.

Career Advice – Stop Calling What You Are Doing a Career!

Have you ever considered a specific point in your career that was a turning point to your current success? Was there a serious of decisions you made? Perhaps in college on which classes to take or later on which industry you wished to work in, or which job interviews to go for. Did you have an opportunity that you just took, maybe without even thinking?

When asked this question, I honestly could not remember, but if there was one, it must have come young. Although, I'd say I decided to stop listening to what people thought about what I was doing, or caring when people told me I could not do anything and turned those comments into challenges. Still, when I say "career" I never thought of what I was doing as a job, more of an adventure, a mission, a journey, a challenge.

If you really want to advance in your "career" stop calling it that, stop using the words; career, job, profession and start focusing on the future, making a difference, and the mission at hand. Think of the challenges that must be met and why your work work is so important to our civilization and society. Think beyond the norm, think about making a difference and why what you are doing must be done to the best of your ability.

Stop preventing that JOB from becoming somehow something you must do, and turn it into something you really want to do. Look at it this way, if you did not get paid; would you still do what you are doing now? If so, you have arrived, if not, you need to adjust your attitude or find something more meaningful to do. Please consider all this. …

College Football Helmets – Its Evolution

Football is one extreme contact sport. It may not be as fast or as furious as the usual racing games you seen but it definitely has a unique notch of action on its own. This is precisely why helmets are necessary when playing football. Both amateurs as well as professional players of the said sport can be seen donning this specific protective gear on before setting off to play the game. However, there are specific characteristics possessed by football helmets. They generally have a face mask, a chin strap, and even a mouth guard that comes as an optional feature.

All that have been mentioned goes the same with college football helmets. Apart from being just a protective gear, it can also be said that college football helmets are being worn for their aesthetic effect. Every football helmet comes emblazoned with the particular team’s logo. This is essential because it helps coaches identify their players while on field and referees find it easier to record down playing technicalities while every one is out there on field.

College football helmets were not as complex as they are right now. Football helmets actually started way back in 1915. These old types of helmets are very basic looking. They are even simply made out of leather. They are also made with a flat looking top design which can be likened to the ones professional wrestlers have been using. Back then, the main purpose of these helmets was to protect the player’s ear from any damages. However, the lack of ear holes on the helmets has proven communication to be difficult when these old helmets were used.

So through time, helmets have evolved and improved until the National Football League has required football helmets to come with a face mask. From then on, college football helmets have also adapted this particular technical requirement for the games they have held. Nowadays, leather is not the main ingredient of college football helmets. It is now polycarbonate which is being widely used in making such helmets for football.

In addition, college football helmets have also taken into consideration the need for constant communication while on field. Football, after all, is a group sport which calls for much coordination within the team. What happened instead is that these football helmets have changed its design from flat top into a more oval structure. According to studies which have been conducted, this oval shape of college football helmets actually helps a lot in protecting the head from too much impact. Moreover, an inflatable bladder is also now being used to provide more protection for football players while wearing a football helmet.

Then eventually, the chin strap has also been developed as professionals felt the need to secure that these football helmets are safely held in place. This is important especially for a contact sport like football wherein unpredictable actions can happen. College football helmets really did evolve through time. From its humble beginnings, people have realized the need to improve …

Online Education – Getting Started With The Basics

Application for a degree course at a University is a lengthy process. Filling out of the requisite forms and looking out for the recommendations necessary and making sure that everything has been taken care of may take a long time. The whole procedure is extremely complex. It is an agonizing wait until the admissions department verifies the details in the form and gets back to you on the status of your application.

The method of application for an online degree depends on the college or university in question and each institution has its own different procedures. Some of them allow online applications, whereas others require the physical paper copy of the form after enrolling online. The institutions do not give a choice for both the options. However, one needs to be aware of the logistic problems involved in both methods of application for degrees.

Some of the online applications need to be filled in one sitting and can not be done in parts. It is not possible to save the half-completed form and then go back to complete it later. This means that you need to have at hand, all the data that may be required for completion of the form. Physical forms filled up and sent by post may tend to get lost or you may have not completed the form and missed out some sections. There is no way to check, except the admissions department informs you of the mistakes. However, one must always retain a copy of the application forms sent out, be it online or by post.

Filling the application is the easy part. The issue of concern is the accreditation and whether your application will be judged on the merit, it describes. Most online universities are more concerned with the fact that you are willing to pay money to get admission in the university. You have to make sure of the university's background, genuineness and identity before you decide to enroll for any course.

While filling the application form for online education, make sure that you have completed all the details asked for in the application. Secondly, ensure that you have provided all relevant information. You can take the services of career guidance agencies if you feel you need help in the matter. Better still, you could contact the administrative office of the college or university if you require clarification of any point or if you need any information. They are the best source of information, should you feel the need for any advice or clarifications in the matter of the online application.

The most crucial point in the whole procedure of application for online degree is that it should reach the concerned institution on time. If you do not meet the deadline and your application reaches late, the institution may just reject it. Therefore, it is vital to see that you complete all the necessary formalities well in advance and send the form before the deadline, to avoid disappointment. …

What You MUST Look Out For Before Enrolling in an Online Degree

No doubts about it – online lessons have become very popular that most busy individuals that do not have the time and convenience for a traditional college or university study can now get the degrees they desire at their convenience.

The following statistics goes further to prove that online degrees are obviously becoming the "in thing" among most busy individuals, especially mums that have a family and a job yet want to get a university or college degree.

– According to International Data Corp. online enrollments are growing by 33% a year, and hundreds of schools now offer online degrees.

– Also, according to the National Center for Educational Statistics, 8% of the 16.5 million undergraduates in the 1999-2000 school year were enrolled in distance education programs. Of that group, 605 were using the Internet to do so.

These two statistics show the fact that online education is gradually becoming very necessary and workable solution for those who want to kill two birds with one stone. The temptation of receiving lectures completely over the Web with real-time virtual classrooms is so strong that almost everyone with less time on their hands are considering online degrees.

But before you pay for any online college or university, ensure that it fulfills the following requirements:

First and foremost, ensure that the online college or university you want to enroll in is accredited by a recognized accreditation body.

Legitimate online degrees awarding colleges and universities are always accredited by higher bodies, to prove their credibility and quality. Such legitimate online degree awarding colleges and universities offer real opportunity that anyone can take advantage of to earn their degrees online. Be it a bachelor's degree or Master's degree, or even doctor degree, you have to ensure the online degree awarding university or college is accredited.

If the college or university is not accredited you could end up with a degree that is not only low class, but one that will not be acceptable by most companies and organizations within the United States, let alone outside the United States.

Secondly, do not fall for the temptation of paying exorbitantly for an online degree. There are lots of online colleges and universities that charge too high for their programs. Do not rush into joining such.

Take your time and search to find others that are affordable yet are accredited. You can get started by asking your local department of education. Talk to them about your desire for an online degree and ask them to recommend one to you that is affordable yet accredited.

Thirdly, ensure that the online college or university gives you the freedom to choose the times you will take your lectures and do your assignments. In other words, you should have flexibility – is not that why you decided to enroll in the first place in an online college instead of the traditional college?

Stay away from online colleges or universities that force you to a particular timing.

Conclusively, before enrolling for any college …
