ESL Vs Bilingual Teaching

After what it may appear at first glance, ESL (English as a Second Language) and bilingual teaching are quite different. They both involve learning English, but this is where the similarities stop. This article will examine both types of education.

ESL

English as a Second Language training is based around bringing a student up to speed in English. It usually involves classes that are related only to the subject of the English language and is almost always carried out in that language. This is probably the fastest method of learning English since it requires almost total immersion for the period of the class, causing the student to start thinking in the language he or she is learning.

ESL classes may be rented out one on one, in small groups or in a proper classroom setting with up to 50 students sitting in. Depending on the language level of the students, the teacher will offer instruction and examples of each part of speech. A large part of early lessons typically includes vocabulary to help students reach the point where they can actively participate in discussions.

Part of the reason ESL classes are so popular is because they are almost inevitably taught in English, forcing the students to learn the language if they want to continue. It is focused specifically on learning English and no other subjects are involved. However, some students do have difficulty with this total immersion method because they are unable to understand enough and get frustrated easily. It depends on the student, but some people are simply better suited to bilingual teaching.
Bilingual Teaching

In some schools, bilingual teaching is offered. This usually means that all classes can be taken in two different languages. These can be any two languages, but one is often English while the other will be the local language. For example, in Guatemala, a bilingual educational center will offer classes that are taught both in the student`s native Spanish and also in English.

Bilingual teaching can be useful because it allows students to use English in the context of a normal class. They will use a wider range of vocabulary since they are using it in Science, History and Math classes. Also, for anyone who has difficulties with the English part of the course, there is always a translation available to help them out.

There are downsides to this method of learning, of course. Since there is the native language option, some students simply won`t learn any English. Also, there can be an overall slowdown in the education of students if they are not able to understand the instructions and tests that are given in their newest language. While this might help them learn English, the delays in other areas of education need to be considered, as well.

This type of position is best suited to individuals who are native English speakers and who have a good grasp of the local language, as well. It`s not usually necessary to be 100% fluent, but you …

Turn Your Faith Journey Into a Faith Career – (2) Talking to God

I do not believe many people in history, if any, have actually heard God's voice. The way we listen to God is not through our ears, but through our hearts. The way we talk to God is through our love, our faith, and our prayers.

To have good communion with our Lord, we must stay in His favor. This means doing all the things that God approves of, such as looking out for each other and practicing what we preach. Fellowship is an important Christian principle, but sometimes, to really "hear" God's "voice", it's best to be alone.

"Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed." (Luke 5.16)

Jesus loved addressing big crowds, but he also knew that solitude was the perfect state in which to talk to God. The crowd will push and press, urge and persuade, and finally drain away your energy. So we need solitude to find the clarity of thought required for learning to see ourselves as we really are and discovering God's mission for us. Without this guidance we end up going down false paths, dead ends, constantly stumbling and never achieving anything worthwhile.

God will give us guidance, not perfect humanity. There is no such thing as perfection for anyone, and God does not need us to be perfect to effect His perfect will. But he does need loyalty, love, and action. Sometimes He talks to us using people and events; the Holy Spirit is the enforcer in this respect. Often, the things some people might regard as coincidences, are the workings of the Spirit trying to communicate with us. Affirmations, coincidences relating to specific events we have been praying about, after after the event to show us that we are on the right track. Remember God can only produce good things and His timing is perfect. And sometimes you just know when you know, that something supernatural is happening in your life. We know when God is moving things because they happen so easily, without effort, without pressure, like oil under our feet. There is no guilt associated with the things we do for God, only a lasting sweetness.

Find your own quiet place and pray. Return to it again and again, until the word of the Lord overwhelms you with the power of its message. Unless you feel swept along by right purpose and fine ambition, channeled from the Divine, you will not last long on your career path. …

International Coach Federation (ICF)

Life Coaches are well qualified if they have credentials from the International Coach Federation. These types of coaches have received rigorous training that was developed by a committee of experts. The organization was formed in 1995 and has grown to be the premier organization with over 19,000 members. It has a reputation for setting high standards of coaching and for ensuring coaches perform their work with a high level of professionalism.

Types of Credentials

There are three major types of credentials that you can gain through a certified life coach training program. These are the ‘Associate Certified Coach’, ‘Professional Certified Coach’ and the ‘Master Certified Coach.’ Bear in mind that these are top level qualifications and will require varying degree of experience before you can undertake them. The process is explained below:

Associates Certified Coach (ACC)

Currently there are two ways to qualify for this credential. The first being an ACTP application; you must have completed an entire ICF Accredited Coach Training Program (ACTP) which involves getting 100 hours of client coaching experience and 2 reference letters from qualified coaches. The second way to apply is through what’s known as the Portfolio Application where applicants are required to have additional hours of training and work experience under a qualified Mentor Coach.

Professional Certified Coach (PCC)

The PCC is for the proven coach who has accumulated 750 hours experience coaching clients. You apply the same way as you would for the Associates Certified Coach credential by submitting a portfolio or completing an ACTP credential that is a year long. As in the ACC, the PCC portfolio credential is available for applicants that can show evidence of additional training.

Master Certified Coach (MCC)

This is a special type of certification which not many people have. The requirements are the most difficult and time consuming requiring 2500 hours of client coaching experience but it has a lot of prestige around the world and will help you to charge substantially more money. In addition, reference letters from 3 mentor coaches are required along with satisfactory results from an oral exam.

Above are some of the most recognized credentials available to life coaches. Gaining the credentials above requires hard work. But with each advancement you’ll be able to justify charging higher prices and have an easier time obtaining referrals. A client will most likely review the experiences and credentials of all prospective life coaches before they make a decision. You should always have this in mind and be prepared to improve your portfolio and …

Impact Of Nutrition On The National Education And Healthy Growth

Nutrition is an unavoidable factor in education and health growth of a nation. A healthy student is a productive student. Good nutrition is increasingly perceived as an investment in human capital that yields returns today as well as in the future, while bad nutrition is a treat to the nation. The global loss of social productivity in 1990 is caused by four overlapping types of malnutrition â?? stunting and disorders related to iodine iron and vitamin A deficiency â?? amounted to almost 46 million years of productive disability â?? free life nutrition raises returns on investment in education and health care.

A body of literature observed that there is a heavy decline in knowledge in Nigeria from 1980s unlike the past years. Some attributed this decline to the malnutrition during the past civil war. A researcher noted that in the 1980s Nigeria had the lowest number of indigenous engineers of any Third World country. The teaching of English, which is the language of instruction beyond primary school, had reached such poor levels that university faculty complained their inability to understand the written work of their students due to ineffective communication there is a lot of quack graduates and workers in the country. By 1990 the crisis in education was such that it was predicted that in few decade to come, there would be insufficient personnel to run essential services of the country. This calls for a serious attention before the nation losses all her skilled labour force. I have categories these problems into two major nutritional factors, the problem of undernutrition and malnutrition. The purpose of this write â?? up is to review the impact of nutrition on the present and past and necessary steps taken to arrest the situation. It will also provide some relevant solutions to the problem.

NUTRITIONAL PROBLEMS:

Nigeria as a country is characterized by two major nutritional problems which includes undernutrition and micronutrient. The rest have little impact and may be reserved for now.

Undernutrition is characterized by inadequate intake of macronutrients. It often starts in utero and may extend throughout the life cycle. It also spans generations. Undernutrition occurs during pregnancy, childhood and adolescence, and has a cumulative negative impact on the birthweight of future babies. A baby who has suffered intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR) as a fetus is effectively born malnourished, and has a much higher risk of dying in infancy. The consequences of being born malnourished extend into adulthood. During infancy and early childhood, frequent or prolong infections and inadequate intakes of nutrients (particularly energy, iron, protein, vitamin A, and Zinc) may add to the contribution of IUGR to preschool underweight and stunting. In Nigerian situation, infants after period of exclusive breast feeding are followed up with weaning which consist of pap, akamu, ogi, or koko and is made from maize (Zee Mays), millet (pennisetum americanum), or guinea corn (sorghum spp.). People from low income groups seldom feed meat, eggs, or fish to their infants, because of socio-economic factors, taboos, and ignorance.…

College Coaching

Do you coach college tennis?

Because if you do, you will want to read this article.

I would like to talk about college tennis coaching and the problems that I see happening in it now.

Many college tennis players will not be playing professional tennis, and that should not be their goal for going to college.

The goal is to reach their full potential as a player.

I have been watching video of college matches and teams and asking around to a few Japanese players that played in the US.

My next step is to go to a US college tournament and get a close-up view, of what is happening and then I will be able to make some more suggestion for them.

But, for now, there are a few things that I can address in this post.

And I hope you will share them.

They are.

College coaches need to make sure that the system that they have in place, is helping their players reach their full potential.

That's really all that matters.

"If not, revise your system today or create a better one for next season."

The ideal situation is to keep updating the one that you have in place right now.

College coaches have to step up their coaching game, so we can get more of these kids ready for the tour if they have the game for going that far.

Speaking of which.

Players should leave early, but only if they are mentally ready !!

"The level is so different and stronger on tour, but all college players who are dominating their opponents or the league they are playing in, can leave after 2 or 3 years and take their game to the tour."

The other problem is,

I wish coaches would understand that.

They are not coaching tennis at this stage of their careers.

What they are actually coaching is the mental game.

And most do not have a clue on how to coach it, instead, they are full of themselves.

Seriously, I watch these guys and hear many of them talk on Social Media.

So, this is something that I know about first hand.

All these guys need to start studying the mental game more, even become a student of coaching it and learn how to master coaching it.

And they should do this before they do anything else in their careers.

They owe it to their players, schools and the game itself.

Let's leave it there for now, shall we?

Bottom line,

They have to drop their EGOS and start focusing on getting results !! …

UK Student Loans Explained

Student loans seem to be the only feasible way out to pursue higher studies for the average student in UK. Things become all the more difficult for those without university funding. The government, in its efforts to make further education affordable, had undertaken quite a few steps to buffer educational finance. A significant step towards this end was the formalising of the Student Loans scheme.

The Student Loans scheme was meant to help students with their costs of living during their period of study. With the credit market in UK specialising and booming with respect to the various economic spheres, student loans from private players are gradually becoming easier to get. Numerous lending agencies are eager to offer you a student loan after taking care of every odd problem a borrower may have.

The student loan or support schemes available in UK for various types of education & training within Britain are numerous. The specifications for student loans differ on the basis of the type of the course for which funding is needed, that is, full, part-time, or distance courses at UK universities and also the nationality, region, merit, and financial capacity of the student.

The student loan specifications and categorisation also change according to the study level

Students planning to go to further education

Currently in further education

Left further education

Gap Year

Students with children

Disabled students

Postgraduate and mature students

NHS funded students

Students in Scotland, N. Ireland & EU students.

You can get a student loan even if you are aged between 50 to 54 years. However, in this case you will have to confirm that you plan to work after the completion of your course. Usually the student loans are designed to take care of the costs of living, which includes costs made on accommodation, food, clothes, and travel. Just 25% of the loan is evaluated on the basis of your income.

For detailed information about the amount of the student loan and the legal procedure, get in touch with the local student loan award authority. This authority will manage the initial part of your student loan application. You will be tested with respect to your means and eligibility to justify your qualification for the student loan. You can also submit your application online with a reliable lending firm.

Against the loan, you are to pay a monthly interest that is based on the rate of inflation calculated daily from the start date of your student loan. You start repaying after finishing the course and after you reach the income level of over £10,000 a year.

However easy the procedure of getting a loan is, remember that you have to repay them. It is better to plan for the repayments while you are applying for the student loans. This increases your credit rating as well as relieves you of severe financial tension in future.…

Advaita Vedanta and Science

The philosophy of Advaita Vedanta is one of the few spiritual philosophies that conform to science. It is however contradicted by nor contradicts present scientific positions.

In Advaita Vedanta, the world is said to have two levels of reality, the level of the world that we see around us which has relative reality, and the level of Brahman or Oneness, which has absolute reality.

The world around us is said to be only relatively real. This does not mean that it does not exist or is unreal, but only that its level of reality is not perfect, it is an ambiguous reality. It has an indistinct reality, nothing that we examine in the world can be shown to have a definite reality. Whenever we analyze anything in the world down to its roots, we will find that it degenerates into an ambiguous reality. It is only when we reach the level of Brahman or Oneness that we will find a definite reality.

Brahman in Advaita is considered to be the absolute reality. It is not affected by time or space and hence is homogeneous, non-discrete and beyond this everyday world.

Now, coming to present science, we find that as far as the first part of the Advaita proposition, quantum physics defines the world in the same way. In quantum physics also, the ultimate reality of the world is said to be quantum particles. At present, the particles of the Standard Model, a table that defines about 50-60 subparticles like quarks, muons and bosons, are considered to be the fundamental particles that institute all of the world. Now, it is interesting that the reality of these quantum particles is described in very much the same terms that Advaita Vedanta used to describe the relative reality of the world. In quantum physics also, it is recognized that the reality of these quantum particles is not well defined, and they have an ambiguous, 'smudged' reality.

Again, it is well recognized in present science that the Standard Model is not complete, and there is a sub-structure below it. What exactly this is still not known, various theories like String theory, Technicolor theory, etc. are proposed. These propose entities which define, if possible, entities which are even more ambiguous in their reality! Thus both Advaita Vedanta and modern quantum physics assert that the world has an ambiguous reality.

However, here the similarity between present science and Advaitism ends. Quantum Physicspite proposing particles with ambiguous reality at the base, does not go on to propose anything which has absolute reality and says it is this ambiguous reality which holds at the base.

Advaita Vedanta would not say that present quantum physics is wrong. Instead what it says is that it is incomplete. It is the assertion of Advaita Vedanta that regardless of the Standard Model nor other theories like String theory that propose discrete, 'atomic' particles will be the final answer and they will be found to be incomplete with further sub structures beyond them. Advaita …
