Right after primary school, a child has to pass onto secondary education, which is one of the key aspects of education, after which college education will follow. Secondary education is referred to as K-12 education in the United States, Australia and Canada and in New Zealand it is referred to as 1-13. In Europe, it came into place in the 16th century, while in the United States it came into existence only in the early 19th century as a result of factories opening up, which created the need for skilled workers.
