Brochu told MLive-The Flint Journal Monday that she has verbally committed to play college golf at the University of Loyola Chicago.
Loyola was her first choice and she was sold after visiting the campus Sunday and Monday.
“I really liked the Catholic college,” Brochu said. “That was a big part for me. The campus is just so beautiful, right on Lake Michigan. I really wanted to be in the city. And I loved the coach. I talked to quite a few girls on the team and they were all really nice.

“It really has everything I was looking for in a college.”
Brochu said the campus is located about 15 minutes north of the city, not far from Wrigleyville, one of Chicago’s most iconic neighborhoods and home to the Chicago Cubs.

Flint Powers Catholic senior Jolie Brochu tees off on the 17th hole during the Division 3 girls golf regional on Monday, Oct. 5, 2020 at Flint Golf Club in Flint.
“I want to major in biology just so I can get a broader undergrad,” said Brochu, who carries a 4.25 grade-point average at Powers.
At Loyola, Brochu will obviously have to earn her spot in the lineup but there will certainly be an opportunity as coach Carly Werwie is losing three seniors to graduation in 2021.
At Powers, Brochu has been on the All-State team for three straight years.
She made the Division 3 first team as a freshman and sophomore before making the Super Team last year.
Brochu has been the runner-up in the Division 3 individual tournament the past two years, losing in a playoff to Pontiac Notre Dame Prep’s Danielle Staskowski in 2018 before finishing second to Birmingham Marian’s Shannon Kennedy last year.
She’ll be one of the favorites to win the Division 3 title Saturday at Michigan State’s Forest Akers East, where Kennedy will also be in the field.
Committing to Loyola will ease Brochu’s mind entering her final high school state tournament.

Jolie Brochu helped Flint Powers Catholic win the 2018 Division 3 state golf championship.
“It’s a lot of pressure off my shoulders,” said Brochu, who turned 17 last week. “I wouldn’t say that it was a big pressure thing but going into these tournaments, I’m always thinking I want to post a good score because I’m texting all these coaches right after about what I’m doing.

Jolie Brochu of Flint Powers Catholic finished second in the 2018 and 2019 Division 3 state golf tournaments.
“Knowing I’ve committed and I’ve found my home, I can give it my all on every shot.”
Brochu said she was being recruited by a couple of smaller colleges in Michigan and Powers coach Jim Snow thought she should pursue an Ivy League school. But she said Loyola “was the perfect fit for me.”
